Spears Avenue BMX Bike Skills Track

In the Spring of 2014, Asa Engineering and Consulting, Inc. contracted with the Trust for Public Land to develop a BMX style mountain bike skills track at the base of the Spears Avenue Trailhead on the North Shore of Chattanooga.  A pump track is a specially designed skills area for mountain bikers featuring multiple moguls along strait sections of the track and smooth, banked turns - it can feel like being on a roller coaster. They're fun for riders of all ages and ability levels, and a great way to brush up on skills for riding trails too.

This public-private partnership project incorporated stormwater green infrastructure elements that were designed to retain the first 1.0” of stormwater on-site.  This first-flush infiltration is intended to improve stormwater runoff quality and reduce peak discharge rates. This was the City of Chattanooga’s first stormwater green infrastructure demonstration project.

This project was largely constructed by community volunteers and made possible by public and private donations.  Asa provided permitting, civil design, landscape architecture, low-impact-development design and construction administration services.

Asa staff members assigned to this project include Jeff Sikes (Sr. Projects Manager); Allen Jones, RLA (Planner/Landscape Architect), and Roger Riemer (Surveyor).
